Nowadays, the adoption of cloud technology in Thailand is becoming more active due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The financial sector is the leading industry that starts to adopt cloud technology. Even though we saw some rise in cloud adoption, most Thai organization heavily relies on foreign technologies. This makes Thai organizations need to spend a lot of money each year on IT infrastructure. To tackle this burdensome Thai organization began to look for a cheaper cloud provider which is a domestic cloud provider.
NIPA Cloud, the No. 1 Cloud provider in Thailand, has started a project worth more than 120 million baht with Krung Thai Computer Services (KTBCS), a subsidiary of Krung Thai Bank (the largest public bank in Thailand), in rearranging from legacy IT infrastructure to cloud infrastructure and cloud management software. According to the Vayu Cloud development plan, a total of 5 projects with a contract of 5 years, will help Krung Thai Bank reduce IT costs by more than a hundred million baht per year.
Dr. Abhisak Chulya (CEO & Founder of Nipa Technology Company Limited or NIPA Cloud) revealed for the first time on July 27, 2021, that the company has signed a contract to supply equipment and install OpenStack Cloud Platform and Cloud systems management Software named Nipa Cloud Platform (NCP) for Krung Thai Computer Services Company Limited (KTBCS), total project value of 120 million baht. The first project is Vayu Cloud Autonomy 1 was installed last year and is currently in the process of installation of Vayu Cloud Autonomy 2 and 3. All projects are procuring hardware and software computing devices, including large-scale Ceph-Storage, to improve internal data management systems. and prepare resources for development according to Krung Thai Bank’s Vayu Cloud Strategy.

The key driver in IT structure is to improve the efficiency of data management processes and prepare the resources which able to migrate from foreign cloud service providers such as AWS and Google Cloud and deployed on-premises according to Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) which will be formally enforced at 1st of June 2022.
